AND HE SHALL BE THE STABILITY OF
YOUR TIMES
There is nothing like war, crisis,
chaos, terrorism - instability in our economical or political systems - the
tearing apart of families; to let us know something is terribly out of
order. When you pick up a newspaper,
magazine, or watch the news on television, the headlines scream with
fear-inducing images. War, bombings,
plane crashes, biological agents sent through the mail, natural disasters,
famine, people losing their lives and jobs, and what was once a “normal” life
has been turned upside down. In our
world today, we live with new challenges that test us to the very core. The old props and comforts don’t seem to meet
the current needs. If you are having
difficulties in your family, they are magnified by the current crises, adding
to an already trying situation. How can
we possibly cope with it all? Some
people believe counseling is the answer, others rely on various drugs to dull
the pain and anguish. There are those
who seek solace in religious exercises of every kind. What are we to do?
The Bible has concrete help for God’s
children and answers for everyone. God says, “Do not fear…” and “…at all times they ought to pray and not
lose heart.” (Isaiah 41:10 and Luke 18:1)
In the midst of it all, we need to ask, “Lord, show us your favor, our
hope is in You. Uphold us every morning,
save us when troubles come…The Lord is supreme, for He dwells on high…, Her
strength will be in Your unchanging stability, her deliverance in wisdom and
knowledge, her treasure is the fear of the Lord.” (Isaiah 33:2-6)
As we look to the Lord and seek to
trust in His Word, we will have a deeper, closer relationship with Him. The promise of His presence and help will
enable hope to rise to the surface and fill our stressed out souls. As we are able to lay all our burdens at His
feet, He will bring forth prayers from our hearts asking Him for the highest
good in all situations.
Facing the future is much brighter as
He reminds us to “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests by made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all
comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”.
(Philippians 4:6,7) The confidence He
gives to me to trust Him enables me to, “…place my cause before God; who does
great and unsearchable things, wonders without number”. (Job 5:8,9)
It is my prayer for you that you will find the riches and wonder of God
in your present circumstances, and that He will be sustain you.
