“I
have set My rainbow in the cloud, as a sign of a covenant (agreement) between
Me and the earth…and never again will water become a flood to destroy all the
people.”
In
Noah’s day, as now, people were living in a wicked manner that went against a
holy God and all He stood for. In
judgment, God punished the earth, destroying everyone but Noah and his family. God then placed His rainbow in the sky as a
reminder that He would never again use a world-wide flood as a universal
judgment against sinful men.
Time
goes on and people have forgotten God and His fearful judgments. As things get back to “normal”, sin begins
to escalate, getting worse and worse.
The ungodly and untaught don’t realize the danger they are in, and they
enjoy a lax moral climate. That’s just
how it was in Noah’s day until God declared “no more!”
In
His infinite wisdom, God allows tragedy to occur to remind us that life is
fragile and one day we will need to give an account of our lives to a Holy,
all-knowing God. Are we ready for this
face-to-face encounter?
We
turn now to the back of our Bibles and in the book of Revelation Chapter 4,
verses 2 and 3 tell us, “Behold a throne was standing in heaven, and One
sitting on the throne (God), …and there was a rainbow around the throne.” In the end when we face the judgment seat of
God, we as believers, again encounter God’s rainbow of peace. Jesus made peace with God the Father, by His
shed blood, for all who would put their faith and trust in Him.
Do
you truly know Jesus, the One who is the rainbow of peace of all who believe?
